The bathing culture of Balaton reached Keszthely in the middle of the 19th century. The first bathhouse and country tavern were built in 1846 here. The only intact and exactly restored island bath of Lake Balaton, which evokes the era of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, was built at the end of the 19th century.
The town's three quality beaches, awarded with Blue Wave flags, and a free beach on the outskirts of Keszthely await the enthusiasts of bathing, sunbathing and water sports. The silky water, the sandboxes and playgrounds offer an enjoyable pastime for children. A ‘lángos’ (fried dough) can make a great lunch together with an ice cream as a dessert. Beer and wines of the Balaton region can be tried at the pavilions of the promenade.
